Urban Spaces | Temporary Use

Urbanism for Nothing?
What are the options for local governments on a budget?

Since June of 2007, the temporary use project  has been looking for “good practices” in urban planning and development that require little to no financial investment from municipalities. This is a crucial topic. Not only because many local governments are strapped for cash. It is also part of a long discussion about the tasks of a modern and efficient administrative system. The temporary use project thus considers measures born of financial necessary as well as those that can innovate the way we think about the role of local government.

Temporary Use

The portal www.zwischennutzung.net  contains links showing the possibilities of temporary use along with other informal methods of urban development, and is designed to connect those who work in this field.

OCCUPATION
OCCUPATION was a two-part project  on urban public space and its processes of social and economic transformation. In the first part of the project, visual artists met in March of 2004 for a four-day symposium in Berlin’s Neuk?lln district, where they developed ideas for 12 local interventions. In the second part of the project, the artists staged those interventions in public spaces throughout Neuk?lln, once during the fall of 2005 and once during the summer of 2006.
